Staff
Modesto Academy of Music and Design: Ed & Jane - Computer Room (location map)
Mon - Fri, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
06/08/26 - 06/12/26 (5 days)

Summer: 5 days - 3 hour daily - $350

Materials: We will supply chess sets, however, students can choose to bring their own.

Students will solve and create chess puzzle answers to demonstrate mastery of concepts. Lectures and handouts for Chess terms will be supplied to aid students in learning some of the tricks Grandmasters employ in their games. We recommend using Chess Lv 100 to test students to establish a rating against the computer to track your computer rating. We will also use websites such as Chess.com and other safe sites to help hone the students' chess skills. This camp will incorporate fun ways for students to use pattern recognition, deductive reasoning, and recall chess tactics with a dialectic approach. Good sportsmanship is taught and required at all times.  Progress will be noted in a folder with a certificate of completion at the end of the week. You can come to more than one camp to improve over the summer.

**NOTE: Prior chess knowledge is NOT required to attend a MAMD Chess camp. In-person camps are for players aged 7 and up for beginners, intermediate, and advanced players wanting to improve their game skills. Siblings, families, and chess clubs are encouraged to register together to create family bonding and team skills.
